At the end of January (usually the last Sunday in January), the village of Querenca is host to the first Sausage Festival of the year in Portugal. Over a thousand people visit on this special day, enjoying the hospitality of the local community and the sights and smells of real Portuguese food and drink.
Wines, liqueurs, cakes, breads, olive oil as well as smoked sausage donated by residents (amongst other fine local food and drink) are auctioned off throughout the day to raise money for two local charities, including the local day centre for the elderly people of the village. The celebration takes place in homage to São Luís, the patron saint of animals.
The day culminates in an explosive firework display, suitably fitting for such a celebration!
Hello Leonard,
We arrived home yesterday & the weather is bloody freezing!!!!
Cabanas was so beautiful we had a lovely 2nd wk just relaxing & taking in what the Algarve has to offer.
So depressing & after seeing ur comment on fb about blue skies & high temp….
